DRR awareness raising and prevention in rural regions

Armenia‘s capacities on locat level are insufficient for an appropriate disaster management. The vulnerability of the peopte can be substantially reduced when they are weil informed and motivated towards a culture of prevention and resilience, This requires collection, compilation and dissemination of knowiedge on hazards, vulnerabitities and capacities. The project‘s focus is on the elaboration of a consolidated methodology on Community Based Disaster Risk Assessment, capacity building of locat authorities and on the coordination between bocal, regional and national stakeholders for further DRR actions.

SDC has a long standing collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), which showed notable progress in the sphere of Disaster and Risk Reduction (DRR). Considering the existing capacities on the level of light rescue and the country's risk profile, important needs especially at the regional level still persist. The project's overall goal is to strengthen the decentralized rescue system through improved response capacities of the responsible governmental institutions.

Regional Art and Culture Programme in the South Caucasus

The present project promotes contemporary arts as an open and interactive platform that can display new perspectives and social mechanisms to the audience, and that can support and stimulate South Caucasian artists. It will be implemented by Georgian and international organizations and focuses on contemporary dance and experimental arts; small grants; arts for marginalised communities; and capacity building of arts and culture institutions.

Livestock Development in the South of Armenia

The Syunik region in Armenia's south produces high-quality beef and dairy products, but many of these livestock farmers are unable to make the most of their animals. This project funded by the SDC helps 7,000 families to increase their milk and meat production, and thus increase their incomes. To achieve this goal, the SDC provides support to local veterinary services, facilitates market access and encourages farmers to acquire specialist knowledge and share it among themselves.
