Cox’s Bazar (Embassy of Switzerland / ICRC / Liberation War Museum) – The Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh have jointly brought the exhibition "Humanitarian Principles. Here and Now" to Cox’s Bazar, in collaboration with the Photo Elysée Museum of Lausanne, Switzerland. Ms. Suzanne Mueller, Chargée d'Affaires of the Embassy of Switzerland, Mr. Md. Shamsud Douza, Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, and Mr. Manish Das, Head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Cox’s Bazar, inaugurated the exhibition today at the Cox’s Bazar Cultural Centre (Art Club). 


Switzerland and Bangladesh celebrate 50 years of friendship

13 March 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Swiss Confederation and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. On this day five decades ago, Switzerland officially recognized Bangladesh as an independent State. To commemorate this very significant milestone, the President of the Swiss Confederation, H.E. Mr. Ignazio Cassis, extended his greetings to the Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid, and the Hon’ble Prime Minister, H.E. Ms. Sheikh Hasina.

They make people feel overwhelmed and helpless, even if they are not directly affected. But how can people respond to these crises and help those in despair collectively or individually? The contemporary art installation and exhibition “Humanitarian Principles. Here and Now” responds to these human and personal emotions and quests. With carefully selected photos and videos, the exhibition aims to give the visitors a better understanding and a deeper insight into the significance that humanitarian principles represent in everyday lives and their impact in the local context. It further creates a space to discuss and share views on Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality and Independence - four key humanitarian principles.


Switzerland launches new cooperation programme for Bangladesh

As Switzerland and Bangladesh are about to celebrate 50 years of bilateral relations, Switzerland officially launched its Cooperation Programme for Bangladesh 2022-2025 at a ceremony held in Dhaka today. Ms. Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), presented the programme on the last day of her 5-day visit to Bangladesh. The Hon’ble Minister for Planning, H.E. Mr. MA Mannan, MP, attended the event as Chief Guest. Other senior government officials, international and development partners, members of the civil society and media also participated at the launch.   



New “Switzerland Corner” launched at the Bangladesh National Museum

The newly redesigned “Switzerland Corner” at the World Civilization Gallery of the National Museum of Bangladesh was launched at a ceremony held on 16 October 2021 in Dhaka. The Hon’ble State Minister for Cultural Affairs, H.E. Mr. K M Khalid, MP attended the ceremony as Chief Guest and officially inaugurated the exhibition corner together with the Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, H.E. Ms. Nathalie Chuard, and other VIP guests. Government officials, international partners, eminent cultural actors and members of the civil society and media of Bangladesh also attended the event, maintaining health protocols.  



Switzerland provides additional BDT 90 crore for COVID-19 support to Bangladesh

As COVID-19 cases are again on the rise in Bangladesh, Switzerland is committing additional 9.8 million Swiss Francs (approximately 90 crore taka) to scale up its support for an effective community-based response. With these additional funds, Switzerland broadens its engagement with national and international partner organizations, in close collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh, to help local communities curb the spread of the pandemic and reinforce socioeconomic resilience.

Switzerland and Bangladesh hold talks on trade and economic issues

The second meeting between the Inter-agency Committee of Bangladesh and Switzerland was held in Dhaka on 18 November 2020. The Inter-agency Committee was formed by the Government of Bangladesh in September 2018 with the aim to review and address challenges of Swiss businesses and investors in Bangladesh, and to promote trade and investment between the two countries. The first Inter-agency Committee meeting took place in April 2019.
