New Swiss ambassadors

Personnel changes will take place in 2022 at several Swiss representations and at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) as part of the periodic transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council at its meeting on 24 September 2021. The appointment of heads of mission abroad becomes effective following approval by the respective host state.

Alexandra Baumann is currently a diplomatic adviser to the head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) and provides management support at the FDF's State Secretariat for International Financial Matters in Bern. She has had the title of ambassador conferred on her for her new function as head of the Prosperity and Sustainability Division at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern.

Wolfgang Amadeus Brülhart is currently the ambassador and head of Switzerland's Permanent Mission to the OSCE, the United Nations and the international organisations in Vienna. He has had the title of ambassador conferred on him for his new function as ambassador-at-large for the MENA region at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern.

Jürg Burri, currently head of mission in Warsaw, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of China, to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and to Mongolia, based in Beijing.

Roger Denzer, currently head of mission in Kinshasa, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Guatemala and to the Republic of Honduras, based in Guatemala City.

Stefan Estermann, currently head of the Prosperity and Sustainability Division (with the title of ambassador) at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Hellenic Republic, based in Athens.

Fabrice Filliez, currently head of mission in Singapore, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Poland, based in Warsaw.

Pierre-Yves Fux, currently head of mission in Nicosia, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Democratic Republic of Algeria, based in Algiers.

Heidi Grau, currently the OSCE special representative (with the title of ambassador) in Ukraine in Kyiv, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Georgia, based in Tbilisi.

Frank Grütter, currently head of the UN Division (with the title of ambassador) at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Singapore and to Brunei Darussalam, based in Singapore.

Benedict Gubler, currently head of mission in Kuwait, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Ireland, based in Dublin.

Niculin Jäger, currently head of mission in Harare, has had the title of ambassador conferred on him for his new function as consul general in New York.

Olaf Kjelsen, currently head of mission in Athens, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Canada and to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, based in Ottawa.

Nicolas Lang, currently head of mission in Luanda, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to the Republic of Niger and to the Republic of Chad, and the permanent representative of Switzerland to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), based in Abuja.

Eric Mayoraz, currently head of mission in Mexico City, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Colombia, based in Bogotá.

Salome Meyer, currently head of mission in Ottawa, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Austria, based in Vienna.

Raphael Nägeli, currently head of the Asia and Pacific Division (with the title of ambassador) at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern, will become the ambassador and head of Switzerland's Permanent Mission to the OSCE, the United Nations and the international organisations in Vienna.

Pietro Piffaretti is currently head of bilateral relations with EU/EFTA Member States (with the title of ambassador) and deputy head of the Europe Division at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern as well as ambassador to the Principality of Liechtenstein, based in Bern. He will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the United Mexican States and to Belize, based in Mexico City.

Lukas Rosenkranz, currently head of mission in Algiers, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia, based in Yerevan.

Chasper Sarott, currently head of mission in Antananarivo, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the Republic of the Congo and to the Gabonese Republic, based in Kinshasa.

Heinrich Schellenberg, currently head of mission in Buenos Aires, has had the title of ambassador conferred on him for his new function as head of the Asia and Pacific Division at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern.

Georg Steiner, currently head of mission in Abuja, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, based in Islamabad.

Viktor Vavricka, currently head of the Swiss Representative Office for the occupied Palestinian territory, in Ramallah, will become the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to New Zealand, to the Cook Islands, to the Republic of Fiji, to the Independent State of Samoa, to the Kingdom of Tonga and to Tuvalu, based in Wellington.
