Films of two Swiss directors are being screened at this year’s Lemesos International Documentary Festival (1-8 August, at the Evagoras Lanitis Centre in Limassol).

Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes, directed by Sophie Huber (2018 / 85’)

The film explores the vision behind the iconic American jazz record label, Blue Note Records. Since 1939, artists have been encouraged to push creative boundaries in search of uncompromising expressions. Through current recording sessions, rare archive and conversations with iconic Blue Note artists, the film reveals an intimate perspective of a legacy that continues to be vital in today’s political climate.

Chris the Swiss, directed by Anja Kofmel (2018 / 80’)  

Croatia, January 1992. In the midst of the Yugoslav Wars, Chris, a young Swiss journalist is found dead under mysterious circumstances. He was wearing the uniform of an international mercenary group. Anja Kofmel was his cousin. As a little girl, she used to admire this handsome young man; now a grown-up woman, she decides to investigate his story, trying to understand what really was the involvement of Chris in the conflict …
