The population in the targeted areas of North Kivu remains highly vulnerable as a consequence of a long-standing and complex crisis. Communities are subject to abuses carried out by various armed actors, aggravating their already poor health status, attributed to a lack of quality health services, poor sanitation and insufficient water supply. The tense political and security situation in eastern DRC generates little hope for improved living conditions for people affected by conflict.

Promoting Market Oriented Skills Training in the Great Lakes region (PROMOST) : phase 2

PROMOST is a program promoting Market Oriented Skills Training in the Great Lakes region by improving the access to quality and market-relevant vocational training. In a first phase, the program improved access and quality of formal and informal vocational training in Rwanda. The second phase will consolidate results in Rwanda, develop alternative vocational training options in Burundi and South Kivu, and further regional networking on TVET.

OCHA is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure coherent response to emergencies and to facilitate the work of operational humanitarian agencies in the field. SDC aims to support OCHA in delivering its core functions in humanitarian coordination, advocacy and policy development. In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

Le provinces de l'Est et le Katanga ont été indentifiées par le Plan d'Action Humanitaire 2015 comme les plus exposées aus risques liés aux conflits avec violence, ainsi qu'aux épidémies, catastrophes naturelles et crises nutritionnelles. Les populations civiles restent exposées à un contexte d'insécurtié généralisée. Depuis janvier 2015, eviron 2,3 millions de personnes étaient/sont délacées internes dans ces provinces. Le RRMP leur fournit une assistance rapide et multisectorielle.

Intervention intégrée de protection de l'enfance et d'éducation en urgence en faveur des enfants vulnérables affectés par les conflits sur le territoire de Béni dans le Nord Kivu

Une nouvelle crise humanitaire se développe sur le territoire de Béni, au Nord-Kivu, depuis fin 2014. Une vague de violences et de tueries, attribuée aux rebelles ougandais ADF Nalu, a fait plus de 400 morts et déplacé près de 115'000 personnes. Effets directs de cette situation, le taux de déscolarisation dans la zone ciblée varie entre 60 et 100%. Des enfants et adolescents sont enrôlés dans les groupes armés. Ce projet vise à donner une protection de l'enfance en urgence à travers des activités éducatives.

La présence de nombreux acteurs aux conflits et le conrôle d'une partie du territoire par des groupes armés, ainsi qu'un problème endémique de gouvernance de la part des autorités militaires et civiles sont les causes principales des violations dont est victime la population du Nord Kivu. Selon les derniers rapport du HCR le Nord Kivu est la province avec le plus grand nombre rapporté de cas de protection (UNHCR - Protection reporting).

Les activités d’urgence comprennent la gestion de l’information, de gestion des sites de déplacement et de coordination humanitaire. Les actions de stabilisation comprennent des activités de relance agricole et économique qui seront menées dans les zones de retour.

The population in the targeted areas of North Kivu remains vulnerable to elevated levels of morbidity and mortality as a consequence of the on-going attacks by different armed groups in the different project areas. These attacks show no sign of stopping, with new developments all over Eastern DRC. The abuses carried out by various armed actors include the pillaging of belongings, destruction of crops, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), abductions and killings.

This emergency intervention consists of two components, (i) Nonfood items direct distribution in emergency situation and (ii) support for agricultural production in areas of return. The intervention will be highly mobile and flexible in order to respond quickly to the most urgent needs. In addition, given the security and humanitarian context in Walikale Territory, marked by both displacement and return movement, the project will also participate in supporting agricultural production in order to strengthen the resilience of communities.

Les interventions suisses dans le domaine de la santé au Sud Kivu se concentrent sur l’appui au système public et sur la lutte contre la violence basée sur le genre. La Phase III du programme d’appui au système de santé du Sud-Kivu met l’emphase sur la qualité et l’accessibilité des soins primaires (y-inclus la santé materno-infantile et la santé reproductive des jeunes), et s’inscrit dans la continuité de l’approche systémique testée pendant les phases précédentes.
