Food security in the Great Lakes Region - Nutrition

The program addresses malnutrition by piloting a coordinated multi-stakeholder approach of the four UN agencies UNICEF, WHO, WFP and FAO together with the two Governments of Rwanda and Burundi. The activities will take place in two districts of Rwanda (Nyamagabe and Rutsiro) and one province of Burundi (Ngozi) where food insecurity and poverty are at highest level. The focus is on the reduction of chronic malnutrition of children under five and pregnant and lactating mothers.

Soins de santé dans la région des Grands Lacs: intervenir au plus près des populations

Malgré la crise politique et humanitaire que traverse le Burundi, la DDC y poursuit son engagement au plus près des populations. Dans le secteur de la santé, elle vise à renforcer les capacités de traitement des centres de santé et hôpitaux de districts, afin que ces derniers dispensent des soins accessibles et de qualité. Le programme de la DDC couvre simultanément le Burundi et le Rwanda.

ICRC Emergency Appeals 2013: Second Allocation (DRC, Ethiopia)

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

OCHA, Multi-Bi contribution to Field Activities 2013 in Ethiopia, Somalia, DRC, Sudan, South Sudan, Eastern and Southern Africa

OCHA is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure coherent response to emergencies and facilitates the work of operational humanitarian agencies in the field. SDC aims to support OCHA in delivering its core functions in humanitarian coordination, advocacy and policy development. Therefore, SDC seeks to provide support to OCHA field offices in relevant humanitarian contexts, in line with SDC geographic and thematic priorities.

UNICEF: Rapid Response to Movements of Population (RRMP)

Continuing clashes between Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the March 23 Movement (M23) in North Kivu Province in eastern DRC is causing immense human suffering. Further military confrontations will have heavy consequences for civilians. Humanitarian agencies continue to provide aid in areas where they have access.

Great Lakes Region: Agriculture productivity, income generation and food security

The program will promote a stronger and more productive agricultural sector that can contribute significantly to a reduction of food insecurity in the region. It emphasizes a market driven approach while at the same time paying attention to farmers with more limited access to markets. Four elements will be addressed: creation of local agribusinesses, sustainable intensification of smallholder production, market development and value addition, and innovation for enabling policy and business climate.

Elargir la palette des métiers pour doper l’économie

La DDC consacre depuis 2012 un programme spécifique aux jeunes Rwandais. En renforçant la qualité de plusieurs écoles professionnelles du Rwanda, la DDC vise à rendre les jeunes mieux outillés pour répondre aux besoins de l’économie du pays qui doit se diversifier pour croître. L’intervention de la DDC contribue également à l’intégration professionnelle des plus défavorisés.
