The president of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, is on an official working visit to Italy on 29 July 2014. He is set to meet with the Italian prime minister, Matteo Renzi, and the Italian foreign minister, Federica Mogherini, for talks.

The two countries maintain close ties at all levels, including dialogue on taxation and agricultural issues. Other important topics are transport and energy policy, as well as infrastructure development.

On 30 January 2014, the president of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, and the then Italian finance minister, Fabrizio Saccomanni, opened the second forum for dialogue between Switzerland and Italy where topics from the fields of business and finance, culture, migration and cross-border issues were discussed.
