The Swiss film «La Vanité» at the Francophone Film Days

Monday, 29.02.2016 – Wednesday, 02.03.2016

The French-Swiss film director Lionel Baier already won the „trophée francophone” for his film «Les grandes ondes (à l'ouest)» in 2014 in Budapest. One year later, the 40-year-old is back with his latest movie «La Vanité». On the occasion of the Francophone Film Days at the Francoophone Festival in Hungary, his film will be also presented in Budapest.

In the movie David Miller wants to end his life. This elderly architect, now ill, doesn’t want to leave anything to chance, so contacts an assisted suicide organization. However, Esperanza, the woman accompanying him on his quest, doesn’t seem that familiar with the procedures. Meanwhile David tries everything he can think of to convince Tréplev, the Russian prostitute in the next room, to act as witness to his final moments, as required under Swiss law. Over the course of one night, all three discover that likings for others – perhaps even love – are curiously tenacious feelings.
