The Hungarian municipality of Tápiógyörgye and the Swiss municipality of Wünnewil-Flamatt celebrated the 20th anniversary of their town twinning on Saturday, 18th of April 2015 in Tápiógyörgye. Therefore a large delegation from Wünnewil-Flamatt had travelled to Tápiógyörgye where its members enjoyed a rich program containing speeches, Hungarian folks dance, music and operetta.

20 years ago, when the partnership agreement was concluded, it was only shortly after the fall of communism. Therefore the partnership was meant to serve as an exchange of experience concerning democratic practice on municipal level. Today, 20 years later, Hungary has been a member of the European Union for more than 10 years. And the partnership is more than ever a symbol of friendship between the two municipalities of Wünnewil-Flamatt and Tápiógyörgye and – at the same time – between the two countries.

This friendship is the base of the program “Swiss-Hungarian friendships: culture and traditions in the heart of Europe”. The next events concerning the town twinning in question are the following: Tápiógyörgye’s youth orchestra is going to participate in the cantonal music festival “Musicanto” in Wünnewil-Flamatt from the 14th to the 17th of May 2015. A delegation from Tápiógyörgye is going to attend the 20th anniversary celebration of the town twinning in Wünnewil-Flamatt from the 2nd to the 5th of October. The celebration takes place as part of the local village market where Tápiógyörgye will participate for the 20th time.
