On the occasion of the Francophonie Festival, the Swiss string quartet Sine Nomine from Lausanne went on tour in Hungary and in Slovenia with the support of Pro Helvetia. The concerts in Budapest on the 9th and 13th of March as well as the one in Balatonfüred on the 11th of March are part of the program “Swiss-Hungarian friendship: culture and traditions in the heart of Europe”.

Winner of various prestigious international awards, the quartet plays regularly in Europe’s and America’s most important cities. The Quartet chose to be named “without a name” in order to symbolize the wish of its members to dedicate themselves entirely to different composers and their work. The musicians are Patrick Genet and François Gottraux (violins), Hans Egidi (alto) and Marc Jaermann (violoncello).

Budapest and Hungary are a paradise for music, especially for classic music. Moreover, important musicians from Hungary such as Géza Anda and Sándor Veress have lived in Switzerland. They helped to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

For 2015, the year we celebrate the friendship between our two countries, it was a priority to our embassy that music, including classical music, should play an important role in the program.

A committee of honor was established for this program, and the concert on the 9th of March in the Budapest Music Centre took place in presence of one of the members of the committee, Mrs. Katalin Csöbör, President of the Friendship group Hungary – Switzerland in the Hungarian parliament.
