Federal Counselor Johann Schneider-Ammann meets Minister Mihály Varga for bilateral talks at the annual meeting of World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) of October 9 and 10 in Lima.

At the annual meeting of World Bank and IMF Federal Counselor Johann Schneider-Ammann, Chief of the Federal Department for Economy, Education and Research, was the leader of the Swiss delegation. Besides the meeting he met several ministerial colleagues such as the Hungarian Minister for National Economy, Mihály Varga.

Both Ministers were pleased with the development of bilateral trade and agreed to further strengthen the bilateral economic relations. Federal Counselor Schneider-Ammann pointed at the problems of Swiss investors in Hungary which might have a negative impact on the perception of the investment climate in Hungary.

Federal Counselor Schneider-Ammann further mentioned the interest for a definite solution concerning „Horizon 2020“ which would be vital for the competitiveness of the entire European continent.

The Hungarian Minister for National Economy stressed the significance of the Swiss Contribution for the bilateral relations and welcomed the successful implementation of the projects being carried out in his country. He declared that his government would welcome a continuation of these programs after 2017 because its positive effects are beneficial to both countries.

In 2014, Switzerland ranked number nine as an investor in Hungary. Its approx. 300 registered companies in Hungary provided jobs to 40´000 people in Hungary.
