The project is financed by the Swiss Contribution with an amount of 4.1 million Swiss francs, whilst Hungary provides 15% of the project costs.
The objective of the project is to rehabilitate the most critical elements of the water supply network in Balassagyarmat and its region, such as transportation mains in the outer city areas, city mains and household connections. Following the successful project completion, the city will have a reliable and safe water supply system with water of good quality, far less network breakdowns, much reduced water losses and lower maintenance cost.
The construction works commenced in August 2015 and is expected to be completed by mid-2016. During the visit to the construction site the participants have witnessed that tangible progress has already been made in the past two months.
Lajos Medvácz, Mayor, Jean-François Paroz, Ambassador of Switzerland to Hungary, Mihály Balla, Member of Parliament and Max Schnellmann, Head of the Swiss Contribution Office attended the ceremony and addressed the press conference. In his address, Ambassador Paroz pointed out the significance of the Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Programme and the Project.
