On the occasion of her visit in Hungary, the president of the National Council with a parliamentary delegation together with the Swiss Ambassador in Hungary, visited another stage of the “Grand Tour of Switzerland in Hungary”. This stage led to the Ganzmuseum in Budapest. Until today, the “Ganz” brand enjoys a very good reputation in Hungary. There might not be any other Swiss citizen, who experienced a similar entrepreneurial success and social advancement abroad like he did. As an inventor, merchant and factory owner, Abraham Ganz from Embrach ZH, made a decisive contribution to the development leading the feudal Hungary of the 19th century into the industrial age. Ganz had his breakthrough with his patent for railway wheels, which he sold to the expanding railway companies throughout Europe. Starting as a journeyman in a foundry, he soon became one of the wealthiest men in Hungary and a pioneer in industrial mass production.
The Swiss delegation gained an impression from the work of the Swiss industrialist in the premises of the former foundry in Bem street, Budapest. Besides the original ovens, railway wheels and casting tools, the present museum contains also an informative exhibition about Ganz and the foundry industries in Hungary.
