The final agreement, which is under preparation, will grant the Swiss team access to the cities’ internationally approved facilities, which include a 50mx25m indoor pool, a diving well, and all the necessary springboards and platforms. There, athletes of all swimming disciplines will have the opportunity to prepare their performance for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, but also for the 2019 and 2021 FINA World Aquatics Championships, which will take place respectively in Korea and Fukuoka.

The goal of the program is also to foster long-term intercultural exchanges between Swiss and Japanese people. Olympians will have the privilege to experience Japanese hospitality at the bottom of Mount Fuji, Japan’s most sacred and revered mountain.

"I look forward to supporting the rich cultural exchanges which will take place between Switzerland and Fuji City throughout this 3-years sequence and beyond", declared Ambassador Jean-François Paroz in the joint announcement. "This is a great opportunity to strengthen the friendship ties between Switzerland and Fuji City, the Shizuoka Prefecture and Japan."

Ambassador Paroz also took this opportunity to congratulate Fuji City officials for having chosen Switzerland for their application to the Host Town Initiative on the road to Tokyo 2020. Once the application is accepted by the Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Promotion of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, Fuji City will become the fourth city to host Switzerland in 2020, together with Oyamazaki Town, Fukushima City, and Oita City.
