As a part of his recent visit to Japan, Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER visited the Nicolas G. Hayek Center, one of the trendiest buildings in Ginza on July 7th. Designed by the prominent Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, the building accommodates the headquarters and several boutiques of the Swatch Group in Japan. It is named after the great figure of the Swiss watch industry, Nicolas G. Hayek who founded the Swatch Group.

The visit was part of the “Grand Tour of Switzerland in Japan”, an initiative of the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Grand Tour is a digital map and series of events which highlight the many locations in Japan with a special link to Switzerland. It is part of the Embassy’s communication campaign towards Tokyo 2020 “Doors to Switzerland”.

On the same day, Federal Councillor Parmelin paid a visit to the Meiji Shrine, a Shinto sanctuary with deep links to the Japanese Red Cross Society and the humanitarian tradition born in Switzerland.

On July 8th, Federal Councillor Parmelin also visited the headquarters of NEC Corporation, where his delegation could interact with Mr. Takashi Niino, President and CEO. In the evening, Federal Councillor Parmelin hosted a gala dinner at Happo-en in Shirokanedai, Tokyo to celebrate and deepen the bilateral relation between Switzerland and Japan, together with his delegation and Japanese representatives of the private and public sectors. In addition to the Federal Councillor, The Hon. Yasutoshi Nishimura, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Yasushi Masaki, Director-General, European Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan, Jean-François Paroz, addressed the audience.
