The Embassy of Switzerland hosted the second forum of the project "TOT City – Tokyo Olympics 2020: Transformations, City and Citizenship in a Case Study" at the Ambassador’s Residence on November 29. Led by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), University of Tsukuba, National University of Singapore and New York University, the multilateral project started in 2020 and pursues the question of how the Olympic Games impacted Tokyo neighbourhood dynamics, dimensions of citizenship and the urban metropolitan region, and contributes towards the understanding of social, political and economic transformations.

The second forum held in a hybrid setting connected 15 persons at the residence–including the project’s researchers from Japan, community members and representatives of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games–with the research consortium in and outside Japan and an online audience of about 35 people around the world. After the opening by Ambassador Dr. Andreas Baum, the speakers gave presentations and provided insight into their research in two sessions on the topics "Tokyo 2020: impact on citizenship and community" and "A critical view on urban transformation in the context of Tokyo 2020". The final part of the forum was a discussion on "Mega events in a global perspective. Urban transformations, platforms and citizenship out of spotlight". The project will be concluded with a publication on the outcome in beginning 2022.

The second forum was co-organized and operated by the Science & Technology Office Tokyo (STO), Embassy of Switzerland in Japan.
