The Embassy of Switzerland in Amman, accredited to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Iraq, has the honour to inform you that it hereby launches within its “small grants program 2023” a call for projects in the following priority areas:

  • Freedom of expression and association;
  • Gender-Based Violence; Rights of Persons with Disabilities;
  • Rights of NGOs to funding, participation, advocating and reporting;
  • Promotion of due process, fight against impunity and death penalty.

Amounts allocated normally range between 3’000 JOD and 14’000 JOD in form of a contribution, which may be maximum 80% of the total project costs (at least 20% of total project costs must be financed by the receiving organisation itself or through other sources of funding).

The project concept note should be sent to: amman@eda.admin.ch with the subject “Small Action projects 2023– project concept note”, no later than 29 December 2022. The project concept note must be 1.5 pages long (no specific template), written in English and contain the following information: 

  • a context description of the issue the project wishes to address (concept idea);
  • the objective of the project, clearly defined and measurable; 
  • the beneficiaries of the project;
  • key activities; 
  • total budget estimate; 
  • the schedule of the project, with clear deadlines; 
  • a contact person with mobile phone number and the address of the NGO.

Eligibility for the “Small actions projects grants 2023: 

  • Creativity and innovation;
  • Tangible results and contribution that directly advance at least one priority area;
  • A clear and measurable objective, implementation strategy, action plan and budget;
  • Applicants can be public, not-for-profit, academic, think tanks. 
  • The project duration from 6 - 7 months.
  • Readiness to provide financial or in-kind contribution of at least 20% of the total budget of the project.
  • Present a budget where administrative costs do not exceed 15% of total cost;
  • Respect sound financial, management and legal norms.
  • Be submitted by an organisation with adequate structures and capacities, which is registered in Jordan or Iraq.

The “Small Actions projects 2023” are not used to finance:

  • Individuals or individual beneficiaries;
  • Running costs of a public institution, governmental body or other organisation;
  • Organisations that are affiliated to political parties, religious institutions or the military;
  • Discriminatory or anti-democratic activities;
  • Purely commercial activities;
  • Projects that solely consist of purchasing materials;
  • Infrastructure or construction costs;
  • Scholarships, study tours abroad, stipends or tuition fees;
  • Missions of foreign experts;

Only shortlisted applicants will be requested to submit a detailed project application. The template will be provided to the applicants via email once selected.

Timeline:

  • 29.12.2022: Deadline for the submission of the project Concept note
  • 10.01.2023: You will be notified if your concept note has been selected
  • 24.01.2023: deadline for the submission of the detailed project proposals
  • 31.01.2023: You will be notified if your proposal has been selected.

A contract will then have to be signed between your organisation and the Embassy of Switzerland. Upon signature of the contract and approval of the concerned authorities, if applicable, up to max. 80% of the budget will be paid. The second instalment of 20% of the budget will be paid upon completion of the project and approval of the final project report, to be sent to the Embassy of Switzerland by 15 October 2023 latest. Once the selected partners have received the notification from the Embassy, they are expected to immediately launch the approval process with the respected authorities.

Cultural Projects Grants 2023

Switzerland takes the view that an independent, diverse and inclusive culture sector can contribute in a decisive and innovative manner to sustainable development, democratic transition, and the promotion of peace. 

A call for projects is being launched under the Embassy’s “Cultural Projects Grants 2023”. Projects should pursue one of the below mentioned priorities including a link to human rights:

  • Building the professional capacity of artists or cultural organisations and institutions, and especially of young or emerging practitioners;
  • Encouraging regional cooperation and fostering debate within society;
  • Supporting innovative cultural creation;
  • Advancing equal opportunities and human rights by supporting cultural diversity.

Amounts allocated normally range between 5’000 JOD and 8’000 JOD in form of a contribution, which may be maximum 80% of the total project costs (at least 20% of total project costs must be financed by the receiving organisation itself or through other sources of funding).
