Support to the reform of mental health services in Moldova

In 2013 Switzerland started supporting Republic of Moldova in a systemic reform of the mental health (MH), aimed at bringing MH services closer to users by providing treatment in a community setting. The project second phase will contribute to further increase the access to and utilization of quality community-based mental health services and health education programs by the means of a nationwide scaling-up.

Moldova’s democracy is still young and fragile. The population is hesitant to participate in decision-making and to demand their rights. Good-quality civic education is an essential element for promoting democratic values, raising awareness about the rights and responsibilities of every citizen, and for stimulating a stronger civic engagement. Switzerland supports Moldova in providing children and adolescents with opportunities to apply civic learning inside and outside the classroom.

Moldovan local public administrations are often unable to respond to the needs of the population in an inclusive and sustainable way. Capacity to hold local authorities accountable is poor and citizens are reluctant to engage in public affairs. Switzerland will support Moldova to enhance participation in local development and decision-making, to further improve public service provision in rural areas and ensure a better framework for decentralisation. A strong focus will be put on the inclusion of excluded groups.

Creating Job OpportuniUes through lmproved Market Systems (IMS)

By increasing competitiveness of local private enterprises and enhancing labour market intermediation and skills development, this project contributes to improved employment and income-generation for women and men, benefiting in particular people from excluded groups. The project will contribute to retaining workforce in the country, which is crucial to Moldova's further development given the long-term trend of labour-related emigration.

With Moldova facing high unemployment and a slowdown in growth, the SDC is funding a project designed to offer young job seekers alternatives to emigration and to improve the country's economic situation. Switzerland is supporting reforms aimed at training a qualified workforce and improving the investment climate. This will not only promote demand-driven training but also help create new jobs in the private sector.

Progressing towards Universal Health Coverage in Moldova

Through this project, Switzerland will support the Moldovan government's efforts to ensure access to healthcare services for all and to protect the population against impoverishing health expenditures. This will be achieved through making services more affordable and more accessible for the poorest and the most vulnerable. The population will be empowered to demand transparency and accountability in the healthcare system.

Contribution to the Project on Cervical Cancer Prevention in Moldova

In Moldova, the cervical cancer incidence and mortality of women continues to be high due to very high proportion of late stage diagnoses. An integrated approach to cervical cancer prevention and control combining vaccination and regular cervical screening has the potential to reduce cervical cancer deaths by at least 80%. The project aims at reducing incidence and mortality due to cervical cancer through better access to and use of cost-effective and quality services within organized cervical cancer prevention program.

Schweizerisches Rotes Kreuz (SRK) / Swiss Red Cross (SRC) (Kredit Ost)

The SRC’s overall goal is to contribute to healthy and safe living for vulnerable groups and communities. Since access to quality health care services remains a key factor for good health, the SRC promotes both supply and demand side of local health systems. As healthy living also depends on the environment, SRC focuses on health determinants such as water, sanitation, nutrition and health literacy. Adressing risks and disasters, SRC programmes encompass disaster risk reduction measures and foster community resilience.

Brot für alle / Pain pour le prochain (Kredit Ost)

En tant qu’organisation de développement des églises protestantes suisses, Pain pour le Prochain a le mandat d’informer et de former, de s’engager dans la politique de développement et d’assurer la qualité. Pain pour le Prochain et les onze œuvres partenaires forment une communauté de coopération (KoGe)[1] qui est un réseau d’apprentissage avec des objectifs spécifiques. Ce réseau permet notamment de joindre le travail de politique de développement en Suisse et le travail au Sud. Son objectif commun est de contribuer à une transformation du système et des comportements économiques, sociaux, politiques et écologiques.

La stratégie de coopération internationale 2020 de Caritas s’intitule « End Poverty ». Pour y contribuer Caritas Suisse s’engage en faveur de la justice sociale et de la dignité humaine dans 40 pays avec 250 projets. Le programme de Caritas considère trois aspects dans son programme qui permettent la durabilité du développement humain: couvrir les besoins de base, promouvoir la résilience et créer des opportunités d’égalité en améliorant l’équité. Dans sa conception, Caritas considère la coopération au développement et l’aide humanitaire comme intégrées dans une seule démarche.

Solidar Suisse oriente son programme de développement sur les besoins et les droits des personnes vulnérables et défavorisées dans les pays les plus pauvres et dans les pays émergents et en transition où les inégalités sont profondes. Solidar Suisse développe des programmes qui renforcent les mouvements sociaux et promeuvent l’intégration active de la société civile dans les processus politiques. Le « travail décent » est devenu l’élément phare de Solidar Suisse qui a développé une véritable expertise dans cette thématique.
