Income and Economic Development

The 2017-2020 strategy, defines income and economic development as one of priorities, the outcomes will contribute to inclusive growth and equitable sustainable economic transformation.

We will focus on improving productivity and competitiveness in the agriculture sector. This will include better access to land, financial services, improved agricultural inputs and irrigation for the small scale farmers, particular the women and the young. Educational interventions will also be sponsored to improve the farmers’ technical and management skills. As these farmers are particular vulnerable, measures will be supported to improve the farmers’ resilience against adverse weather such as drought, flood and tropical storms.

For the overall business environment in the country, our initiatives will focus on improving the conditions for micro- and small enterprises in all sectors. We will maintain our support for public financial management reforms - both at the central and decentralized levels. Area of tax policy and administration to support domestic revenue mobilization are of specific interest. In addition, we will support economic research and advocacy work by CSOs and academic institutions in areas such as determinants of inclusive growth and management of natural resources wealth.

Income and Economic Development Outcome 1: Small farmers, with a particular focus on women, and other SMEs, increase their incomes through improved market opportunities, skills development and access to services.
