Policy Support Programme (PSP) (Single phase)
Project completed
Evidence-based analysis and data are crucial for Pakistan’s Sustainable Development Goals agenda. The proposed programme supports key stakeholders to improve pro-people policymaking and provides a platform for SDC to showcase lessons learned from over fifty years of development cooperation in Pakistan. Such knowledge transfer and institutionalization is important in the phasing out process of SDC’s Pakistan country programme.

Background | Pakistan was among the first countries to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by a unanimous Parliament resolution in 2016. However, since then, the SDG implementation process hasn’t advanced much. Policy formulation in Pakistan is still weak, especially due to a lack of data and evidence-based analysis, which are crucial for need-based development agendas addressing the SDG’s. After the next election process planned in 2018, the new federal and provincial governments will need to formulate development agendas by defining priorities and targets. This is an opportunity for UNDP and SDC to create a platform for improved political analysis to inform policymaking in Pakistan. Additionally, it provides space for SDC to feed into the policy dialogue the relevant lessons learned from more than 50 years of development assistance in the country. |
