Siberia shows interest in Swiss culture and innovations

Article, 03.12.2021

We have become frequent visitors to Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia: In August, Deputy Head of Mission Tobias Privitelli visited the region on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Friedrich Dürrenmatt, and in early December a delegation headed by Ambassador Krystyna Marty Lang in addition to an extensive cultural program presented in Novosibirsk an exhibition dedicated to Swiss environmental technologies - innovative solutions that contribute to the sustainable development of society. However our trip to Novosibirsk doesn't end here - we are planning to come again in 2022 with a scientific and business programme and our Swiss Days in the region.

During her visit Ambassador Krystyna Marty Lang discussed prospective areas of cooperation at the meetings with the First Deputy Governor of Novosibirsk region Yury Petukhov, the Mayor of Novosibirsk Anatoly Lokot and the Human Rights Ombudsman of Novosibirsk region Nina Shalabaeva. Ambassador Marty Lang also took part in the opening ceremony of the new office of the Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Novosibirsk at the premises of the Swiss-Russian company Fisher Spindle Technology.

The Days of Swiss Culture in Novosibirsk started with the film retrospective of Bruno Ganz at the cultural center Pobeda and continued at the State Public Science and Technology Library, which became the venue for two of our projects at once: The exhibition "Can Tech Save the World?" and the photo-exhibition "Max Frisch. Terra Incognita". By the way, those, who are not in Novosibirsk, may visit the exhibition "Can Tech Save the World?" online

Of course, a Swiss cultural festival cannot do without music: with the support of the Embassy and the Swiss Cultural and Business Center "Helvetia-Siberia", the Novosibirsk Philharmonic chamber orchestra organized the concert "As Precise as a Swiss Watch" under the direction of Swiss conductor Rainer Held.

The Embassy of Switzerland in Russia thanks the Administration of the Novosibirsk region and the city of Novosibirsk, the Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Novosibirsk Mikhail Yakovets as well as our project partners – cinema Pobeda, the State Public Science and Technology Library and prof. Natalia Bakshi, curator of the Max Frisch exhibition for their warm welcome and cooperation.
