First Allocation (Cash) of SDC Funding (Africa Division) to WFP Operations in 2014 Burundi, Rwanda

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to WFP operations allows the World Food Programme (WFP) to respond proactively and to provide immediate food assistance in life-threatening situations and underfunded emergencies.
 

Appui à la gestion foncière

Lancé depuis 2008 au Burundi et 2011 en RDC, le programme d’appui à la gestion foncière met le focus stratégique sur la sécurisation des droits en milieu rural ainsi que le développement et la mise en œuvre des politiques foncières en vue de garantir une meilleure gouvernance dans ce domaine et la réduction des conflits dans les communautés. Le focus portera sur le renforcement et l’extention des services fonciers, la reconnaissance des droits sur les terres rurales et l’amélioration du cadre légal et politique.

Trans-Border Dialogue for Peace in the Great Lakes Region

Jointly with the Swedish Development Cooperation (SIDA) and the Division Human Security (DHS), SDC will support a program on trans-border dialogue for peace in the Great Lakes region run by Interpeace. Through a research and dialogue process, the program seeks to address the root causes behind the recurrent conflicts in the Great Lakes region and will propose and disseminate concrete consensus-based solutions to decision makers taking into account the concerns and recommendations of local populations.

Ce programme contribuera à la consolidation de la liberté d’expression et au droit à l’information, tout en renforçant les compétences et la pluralité des médias.

Food security in the Great Lakes Region - Nutrition

The program addresses malnutrition by piloting a coordinated multi-stakeholder approach of the four UN agencies UNICEF, WHO, WFP and FAO together with the two Governments of Rwanda and Burundi. The activities will take place in two districts of Rwanda (Nyamagabe and Rutsiro) and one province of Burundi (Ngozi) where food insecurity and poverty are at highest level. The focus is on the reduction of chronic malnutrition of children under five and pregnant and lactating mothers.

Trotz der politischen und humanitären Krise setzt die DEZA ihr Engagement für die Bevölkerung in Burundi fort. Im Gesundheitsbereich will sie die Behandlungsmöglichkeiten der Gesundheitszentren und Bezirksspitäler erweitern und damit den Zugang der Bevölkerung zur medizinischen Grundversorgung und deren Qualität verbessern. Das Programm der DEZA deckt sowohl Burundi als auch Ruanda ab.

Great Lakes Region: Agriculture productivity, income generation and food security

The program will promote a stronger and more productive agricultural sector that can contribute significantly to a reduction of food insecurity in the region. It emphasizes a market driven approach while at the same time paying attention to farmers with more limited access to markets. Four elements will be addressed: creation of local agribusinesses, sustainable intensification of smallholder production, market development and value addition, and innovation for enabling policy and business climate.

Erweitertes Berufsspektrum zur Ankurbelung der Wirtschaft

Die DEZA bietet seit 2012 ein spezifisches Programm für junge Ruanderinnen und Ruander an. Sie fördert an mehreren Berufsschulen eine qualitativ hochwertige Ausbildung. Auf diese Weise sollen die Jungen besser auf die Bedürfnisse der ruandischen Wirtschaft vorbereitet werden. Diese muss diversifizieren, wenn sie wachsen will. Mit ihrem Engagement trägt die DEZA auch zur beruflichen Eingliederung der am meisten benachteiligten Bevölkerungsgruppen bei.

Promoting off-farm employment and income in the Great Lakes region through climate responsive building material production

The program aims at triggering local economic development and increasing employment and income in the rural areas of the Great Lakes region through promoting climate responsive building material technologies. The program will work on 3 different axes: support the efforts of the Government of Rwanda and Burundi to protect the natural resources; promote innovative technologies and offer corresponding vocational training; develop economically viable solutions for professional and climate responsive building material production.
