On Friday 11 December 2020 the Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr. Urs Schmid, was received by the President of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Mr. Alexandar Vucic. for the presentation of his letters of credence, by which H.E. Simonetta Sommaruga, President of the Swiss Confederation has accredited him as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Republic of Serbia.

The subsequent brief meeting between President Vucic and Ambassador Schmid provided for an opportunity to appreciate the excellent and multifaceted relations between Serbia and Switzerland. Both sides expressed satisfaction about the successful visit of H.E. Isabel Moret, President of the National Council of Switzerland to Serbia in November. Different aspects of the ongoing reform process, including with regard to rule of law, and its continuous support by Switzerland were highlighted. The successful cooperation in the field of vocational education and training and its impact on employment and economic development as well as the important role of the private sector in this regard was especially emphasized. Switzerland is among the most important foreign direct investors of Serbia and the meeting recognized the excellent perspectives for further expanding economic relations, increasing bilateral trade and extending the mutual cooperation to additional spheres.
