Natural Disaster Risk Reduction and Integrated Watershed Management in Muminabad

Project completed

Recurrent food insecurity and an estimated 60% of the population living below poverty line are characteristic for the project area. Recurrent small to medium scale disasters (debris flow, flash floods, landslides) amount up to 50% of the district budget. The widespread poverty  leads to overexploitation of natural resources and thus to increased risks, what affects again negatively the budget of households and the government. This project is one of the practical sub-projects of the Swiss DRR-Integrated Watershed Management Initiative in Tajikistan with the goal of “Reduced disaster losses and increased safety for people’s life and their livelihood through stable watersheds  in mid-hill, rain-fed areas of Tajikistan” and contributes to the initiative’s knowledge management and policy development in the sector.
