Urban development Sousse and secondary cities in Tunisia

This project aims at supporting the Municipality of Sousse in the implementation of the "Urban Development Strategy of the City of Sousse", by providing financial and knowledge support to plan the development of the third city of Tunisia in a sustainable way.

Hintergrund

Since the 2011 revolution, Tunisia has anchored the decentralization process in a new constitution, putting cities in the heart of local development processes and making them proactive actors in the planning, implementation and delivering for municipal infrastructure and services. The originality of the strategy developed in Sousse is the implementation of a participatory approach that largely involves civil society but also the services of the state (ex. : water, sanitation, energy). It aims at reaching a common vision of the city development and defining priorities and actions.

Ziele

The overall goal of the project is to bring better economic, environmental and social conditions through sustainable urban development to the inhabitants of Sousse and its suburbs.

Mittelfristige Wirkungen

The project has three main outcomes:

The modal share of soft modes of transport and public transport in urban travel increases (requires the implementation of a second project phase).

The fossil energy consumption (electricity and fuel) in the city is reduced (requires the implementation of a second project phase).

The masterplan for resource mobilization is in place and enables:

- an optimization of the collection of household waste

- a better management of the street lighting

- simplification and more effectiveness in the issuance process, management and control of building permits

Resultate

Erwartete Resultate:  

Revision of the Urban Planning Plan and of the Urban Transport Plan.

Establishment of a master plan for Energy / Street Lighting.

Establishment of a resource mobilization blueprint.

Promotion of green buildings.
