In the framework of the Kyiv International Lectures Series, Dr. Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of the Republic of Latvia, will lecture about the positions of Latvia and Ukraine in Europe, experiences and opportunities.
Dr. Vaira Vike-Freiberga will address questions such as:
- Latvia’s transformation
- Policies towards national minorities
- Security policy choices
- Administrative territorial reform
As President of the Republic of Latvia 1999-2007 Dr. Vaira Vike-Freiberga has been instrumental in achieving membership in the European Union and NATO for her country. Since 2014, she is President of the World Leadership Aliance Club of Madrid. Ms Vaira Vike-Freiberga was named Special Envoy to the Secretary General on United Nations reform and was official candidate for UN Secretary General in 2006. Dr. Vaira Vike-Freiberga was named vice-chair of the Reflection group on the long term future of the European Union (2007-2010) and Chair of the high-level group on Freedom and Pluralism of the Media in the European Union (2011-2012).
This edition of the Kyiv International Lecture is jointly organized by the Embassies of the Republic of Latvia and Switzerland, in cooperation with the Sorbes Group. The Ukrainian Week is the media partner, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv the academic partner of the Kyiv International Lectures Series.
