On 8 October, the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK hosted its annual Security and Defence Symposium, bringing together guests from think tanks, government and the defence industry.

The focus of this year’s event was on autonomous systems, drones and artificial intelligence. Dr Markus Höpflinger from the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport gave a keyniote speech on the Swiss approach to drones and robotics from a military perspective, with Lt Col Richard Craig providing the British perspective.

The event concluded with a panel discussion comparing the UK and Swiss approaches, with a particular focus on co-operation in the field of cyber security and defence.

The Symposium has now become well-established as an important annual event in the defence community and we look forward to welcoming guests back for next year’s event.
