The 1989 Insurance Agreement opens up certain areas of the insurance market between Switzerland and the European Union (EU).
In the non-life sector, which covers direct insurance for damage (household, motor vehicle, travel and liability insurance, etc.), Swiss insurers are entitled to set up and acquire agencies and branches freely in the EU. The Agreement also reduces regulatory requirements. The same applies for EU insurers in Switzerland. The Agreement thus contributes to improving the international positioning of Swiss insurers.
