Today, still only 31% of population of Bosnia and Herzegovina have access to wastewater services, but at present 12 WWTP are in preparation or under construction in the country. In the city of Zenica, at the moment, approximately 75% of the urban population are already connected to the central sewage network. However, the municipal wastewater is discharged into the river Bosna without treatment and is additionally mixed with the industrial wastewater. The discharge of untreated urban wastewater leads to a considerable pollution of the river and health risks for the population.
The overall objective (impact) of this project is the protection of the environment, specifically of the Bosna river and the improvement of the living conditions of the population of Zenica as well as the downstream localities in Bosnia Herzegovina. Accorrdingly, the goal is to introduce reliable and sustainable wastewater services for the population in Zenica.
