Secondment Fund Sudan 2016-17

Proyecto terminado

Despite years of assistance, the humanitarian needs remain acute in several fragile regions of Sudan. This is due to continued armed conflict, lack of human security – especially that of children –, poor food security and livelihoods, and very rudimentary basic services. This consequently leads to ever increasing internal displacement and multiple emergencies. The deployment of Swiss experts (secondees) to multilateral organizations strengthens the effectiveness and the efficiency of the humanitarian response, and bolsters measures for early recovery and better resilience.

Humanitarian needs in Sudan remain acute, with 5.4 million people – 60 percent of whom children – considered to be in need of humanitarian assistance at the end of 2015. 3.1 million people remain internally displaced, and the country hosts 375'000 refugees. The most severely affected areas are Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan.

Objetivos

Primary objective is to save lives, enhance protection, and ensure access to basic services for the most vulnerable women, children and men in particularly fragile areas of the Sudan. In light of the protracted crisis and the need to enhance the transition from relief to rehabilitation and development, SDC's particular focus in Sudan is to build the resilience of the poorest and strengthen their livelihoods, thus facilitating their timely recovery from crisis situations.
