Testing the right people, at the right moment and with the right tool is essential for the Covid-19 pandemic management. Both the Swiss international cooperation and the Swiss pharmaceutical sector have a long-standing experience and interest in supporting R&D, access and manufacturing of diagnostics.. The Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) is leading the global effort (ACT-A Dx Partnership) in the development of affordable COVID-19 diagnostics and local manufacturing capacity for and in LMICs.

Building upon a successful pilot phase (2017-2019), Switzerland will continue to contribute to two well established NGO-ted initiatives on technical and vocational education and training in Eritrea. The initiatives aim at improving the quality of teaching in targeted vocational skills institutions and testing the possibility of engaging in entrepreneurial activities. Ultimately the goal is to contribute to giving better life perspectives and job-opportunities to young Eritreans in their home country.

In six urban municipalities and their surrounding territories, the public and private sector and civil society will engage in participatory local economic development planning and implementation, generating income opportunities for poor and disadvantaged women and men. The project combines Switzerland’s expertise in market development and local governance to develop and refine a model of local economic planning and creates the right conditions for its wider replications by the Government of Bangladesh.

Switzerland promotes socio-economic inclusion of vulnerable youth to enable sustainable development in Egypt. The project “Youth for Future” strengthens protection and provides better livelihood opportunities for youth to facilitate their access to employment and promote social cohesion. Egypt and Switzerland share a common interest to bring new perspectives to vulnerable young Egyptians, refugees and migrants with special focus on young women and in setting a favorable framework to promote inclusive socio-economic integration.

Due to the devastating impact of COVID-19 on Bolivia’s economy, many micro and small enterprises are facing bankruptcy. As they are the backbone of the Bolivian economy and responsible for most of its job creation, employees and the self-employed are seeing huge job losses and rising food insecurity. This project will help preserve jobs and increase the resilience of micro and small enterprises by providing sanitary support measures in the short term, and by promoting alternative and innovative business models in the long-term.

7’000 young people improve their employability and income through quality vocational skills training designed in partnership with the private sector. The project fosters a culture of entrepreneurship and promotes collaboration between training centres and the private sector in a challenging economic environment. In the context of this exit phase SDC furthermore consolidates its long-term effort to strengthen the national VST system through a final investment in gender sensitive teacher training and modern learning facilities.

Switzerland's contribution to this multi-donor project will provide social assistance to Jordanians households which are unable to meet their basic needs, including as a result of COVID-19, and at the same time support the institutional reform process of Jordan's social protection system. Switzerland will contribute to the reform process of the National Aid Fund to make it more effective, inclusive, accountable and sustainable. This first phase orient Switzerland’s engagement in upcoming phases which will be manly focussed on the institutional reform process.

Based on Swiss expertise in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, the project
contributes to establish a federal vocational qualifications system. The NVQS will increase the
transparency on the labour market for employers and workers, improve official recognition of
workers competencies in hospitality, construction and automobile sectors and allow links between
TVET and general education to access higher level qualifications for better employment in
domestic and international labour market.

Skills Development remains high on Cambodia’s national agenda. Switzerland will scale up its support to youth in rural poor areas to access skill development, equipping them with relevant skills to access employment and improve their incomes. Swiss expertise will also contribute to improve the Technical and Vocational Education and Training system to be more inclusive and strengthen its implementation in collaboration with the private sector to respond to labour market needs.

Leveraging on Switzerland’s longstanding engagement and experience in pro-poor agricultural market development, this project will benefit 75,000 poor and disadvantaged households living on riverine islands through profitable and environmentally sustainable livelihoods options. Thanks to improved access to agricultural inputs and services, access to output markets and financial services, they will generate an additional income of CHF 14.5 million to be invested into the diversification of their farm business and basic needs.
