Changement climatique et environnement

Les effets du changement climatique ne connaissent pas de frontières géographiques. Ils touchent tout le monde, partout sur la Terre, et frappent de manière particulièrement dure tous ceux et celles qui tirent leurs moyens de subsistance directement de la nature. Il en résulte pauvreté, famine et catastrophes naturelles.

Le bouleversement climatique mondial pose des défis majeurs aux acteurs du développement, puisqu’il affecte bien plus durement les pays et les groupes de population pauvres que les riches. Pesant toujours plus lourdement sur le développement, il va jusqu’à compromettre des succès déjà obtenus à ce jour. C’est pourquoi la protection du climat et la gestion des changements climatiques occupent une place croissante dans la coopération au développement. Le Programme global Changement climatique de la DDC tient compte de cette tendance.

Exploitation forestière durable

En appliquant un certain nombre de mesures portant sur l’exploitation des forêts et des terres, il serait possible de compenser plusieurs fois les quantités d'émissions de gaz à effet de serre produites actuellement chaque année.

Approvisionnement en énergie

L’optimisation des processus de production et l’amélioration des conditions de vie passent par la modernisation des services énergétiques et par une utilisation efficace de l’énergie.

Financement de la lutte contre le changement climatique

La Suisse intègre le changement climatique dans sa politique de développement. Elle propose de l’expertise, des solutions techniques et des moyens financiers en faveur de la protection du climat.

Adaptation au changement climatique

Dans le cadre de son Programme global Changement climatique, la DDC aide des groupes de population particulièrement vulnérables, sur différents continents, à s’adapter au changement climatique.

Régions de montagne

Les montagnes représentent l’habitat d’un cinquième de la population mondiale ainsi que le réservoir d’eau de la moitié de l’humanité. De par sa topographie, la Suisse a tout particulièrement à cœur de promouvoir le développement durable des régions de montagne.

Peace Support Facility – FSO Safer Salvage Operation - Yemen

An oil spill from the Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) tanker “Safer” could occur at any time, discharging up to 1’148’000 mio barrels of crude oil along Yemen’s Red Sea coastline and neighbouring countries, affecting the lives and livelihoods of up to 12 million people. Through this contribution, Switzerland supports the United Nations’ salvage operation to prevent an oil spill in the Red Sea and its potentially disastrous impacts on Yemen and the region. 

Increase Cabo Delgado

Applying the triple nexus approach, the project aims at creating an enabling environment to build resilience, foster economic development and social cohesion among the conflict affected communities of Cabo Delgado province through the improvement of essential services (energy, water); support of economic development (capacity building, income generation); peacebuilding and conflict mitigation through social cohesion activities between internally displaced population and Host Communities. 

Peru, WFP: Strengthening the capacities of national institutions in disaster risk preparedness and response

The project aims to increase institutional resilience by strengthening the capacities of national and subnational entities responsible for disaster risk preparedness and response processes through the generation of knowledge, training, and the modernization of the information management system of National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), as well as the improvement of social communication strategies considering the population’s/ users’ needs. The project is a contribution to WFP's Strategic Country Plan in Peru  2018 - 2022 and the upcoming Strategic Country Plan  2023-2026 with INDECI as a main partner and hence is a  is a direct response to  Pillar 2 (Strengthening Partner’s Preparedness for Response)  of SDC’s DRR & RR regional Program in Peru.

Adaptive and Resilient Communities in their Habitat Project (ARCH)

The project aims at supporting the remote mountainous communities of Pamirs and authorities in developing resilient habitat and improving people's livelihoods in Tajikistan. This will be achieved through reducing vulnerabilities to natural hazards while strengthening participative disaster risk governance as well as joint definition and implementation of relevant risk reduction measures.

CREWS - Contribution to the Climate Risks and Early Warning Systems Initiative

The Climate Risks and Early Warning Systems Initiative (CREWS) supports Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States in creating necessary human capacities to generate and communicate climate and weather risks timely and effectively. This allows saving millions of lives and significantly reducing economic losses caused by natural disasters and a changing climate. The Swiss contribution supports CREWS as key mechanism to achieve the UN Early Warnings for All Initiative. The combined expertise of SDC and MeteoSwiss increases impact and sustainability of CREWS.

Soutien au Dispositif National de Sécurité Alimentaire -PRESA-

Malgré l’excédent céréalier enregistré durant ces deux dernières décennies, l’insécurité alimentaire touche près du ¼ de la population du Mali. La DDC veut renforcer les capacités institutionnelles et organisationnelles du dispositif national de sécurité alimentaire en vue d’améliorer la prévention et la gestion des crises conjoncturelles et accroître la résilience des populations vulnérables à l’insécurité alimentaire et nutritionnelle.

Strengthening Social Protection in Zambia

Switzerland aims to increase the resilience of poor and vulnerable households in Zambia by strengthening the government’s systems for managing and delivering social assistance to vulnerable populations.  Specific objectives are to make the payment process more efficient, increase domestic financing to social protection and equip the Social Cash Transfer programme to respond to climate-related and other shocks.

SDC will contribute to existing programmes of UNICEF and the World Bank.

KENYA - Strengthening Livestock Sector in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) Counties

60% of the population in northern Kenya depends on livestock production in an environment of recurrent droughts and natural resource-based conflicts. The programme will contribute to poverty reduction, improved resilience to shocks and enhanced socio-economic inclusion of pastoralist and agro-pastoralist men and women by supporting climate-smart livestock production, improving rangelands management and promoting peaceful coexistence of communities.

Climate Resilient Integrated Water Resources Management in the Zarafshan River Basin in Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan and across Central Asia, climate change has significant impacts on the availability of water resources. Building upon Switzerland’s engagement in the water sector reform in Uzbekistan, the program promotes climate resilient integrated water resources management in the Zarafshan River ZRB basin to enhance people’s livelihoods and to inform water sector reform processes and climate change policies at national and regional levels.

Nurture - Nurturing climate resilience in Cambodia

01.02.2022 - 31.12.2026

Switzerland and the Swiss NGOs HEKS and Caritas, in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture and of Water, support smallholder farmers and their communities with Swiss expertise on sustainable water resource management, increased social accountability for climate change adaptation and disaster risk management and diversified incomes using agro-ecological production. Some 70,500 men and women in four provinces highly vulnerable to climate change and disasters will benefit.  

Global Energy Efficiency and Construction Outreach Programme (GLECOP)

The Global Energy Efficiency and Construction Outreach Programme (GLECOP) contributes to low-emission, energy-efficient and resilient development of the building sector at a global scale. It supports two initiatives, the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction and the Energy Efficiency in Emerging Economies Programme. With its support, Switzerland aims to leverage successful practices from its bilateral projects at the global level to strengthen energy efficiency policies in the buildings sector.

Support to the Climate and Clean Air Co-alition (CCAC)

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition is a leading global multistakeholder partnership bringing together states and intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations to jointly tackle the challenges of climate change and air pollution. Switzerland actively supports the Coalition, sharing its experiences garnered both nationally and through its international cooperation in order to assist low- and middle-income countries in implementing the most effective emission reduction strategies that yield multiple benefits for sustainable development.
