AGRI-CHAINS – Development of agri-food chains at the local level

Projet terminé

The AGROCADENAS Project, developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and the European Union with the contribution of Switzerland, seeks to improve food security through increased local production and dynamic processing and marketing. It supports three key agri-food chains (grains, cow milk and beef), benefiting 10,000 producers directly and over 1.6 million inhabitants in selected municipalities indirectly

Contexte

Despite the measures adopted (supply of land, decentralization, and cooperative development), Cuba continues importing 80% of the food products consumed by its population. The agricultural and livestock production sector is being transformed and revitalized, and has been given high priority by the Cuban Government, but it requires multisectoral action (agriculture, industry, trade) to promote both food production and processing/marketing.

Objectifs

Contribute to food security in the country through increased availability of products that are mainly imported.

Effets à moyen terme

Increase local food production and access through improved agri-food (grains, cow milk and beef) chain management and performance in pilot municipalities of the country.
