The head of the FDFA, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, met his Belgian counterpart Sophie Wilmès for a virtual exchange on 9 November 2021. In addition to the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, the exchange focused on Switzerland's relationship with the EU.

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sophie Wilmès discussed bilateral relations, focusing on research, development and innovation, and Switzerland's European policy. In discussing Switzerland's EU policy Mr Cassis underscored Switzerland's commitment to remaining a reliable partner and maintaining good and stable relations with the EU based on the bilateral approach. He also stressed that it is in the shared interests of Switzerland and the EU to safeguard their well-established approach to cooperation and to systematically retain the agreements already in force.
