Swiss consulate general in Chengdu

The FDFA decided to open a consulate general in Chengdu following consultation with the parliamentary foreign affairs committees as mandated by the Federal Council. This will be Switzerland's fifth official representation in China in addition to the embassy in Beijing and the consulates general in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Chengdu has experienced rapid economic development in recent years. The region has around 300 million inhabitants and is an attractive market for Swiss businesses.
There are already a significant number of Swiss companies based in the region, particularly large enterprises. The tasks of the new consulate general will focus on the economy, trade, innovation and tourism.

Frank Eggmann has been appointed as the first consul general in Chengdu. He started his career at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1985 and served at missions in Manila, Hamburg, Nairobi, Curitiba, São Paulo, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Brasilia, Bern, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. He is married with two children.
