Switzerland and EU resume dialogue on financial market regulation

On 4 July 2024 in Berne, the State Secretariat for International Finance (SIF) and the European Commission resumed their dialogue on financial market regulation, which had been suspended since 2017.

A broad range of topics in the areas of financial market stability, cross-border activities, capital markets, digital finance, cybersecurity, sustainable finance and insurance were discussed during the meeting in Berne. The two delegations also agreed on a joint statement on the outcome of the regulatory dialogue on financial sector matters.

The Swiss delegation, which included representatives from the State Secretariat for International Finance (SIF), the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), was led by Daniela Stoffel, SIF State Secretary. The EU delegation was led by John Berrigan, Head of the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA).
