The Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE)

A unique international endeavour dedicated to the exploration of the Southern Ocean all around Antarctica. This unprecedented journey gathered 22 different research projects and teams from 30 nationalities. Between 20 December 2016 and 19 March 2017, the expedition visited 12 islands and performed scientific experiments at 96 sites on land and at sea, gathering more than 20’000 samples. First results already indicate surprising trends which will be presented.
The Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) was led by the Swiss Polar Institute in collaboration with Polar Institutes across the world.
