Modernisation of railway border crossing in the Podlaskie voivodeship (Siemianówka)

Poland has one of the longest Schengen external borders of the EU, measuring nearly 1200 kilometres. An efficient, functional eastern Schengen border is not only important for Poland and the EU, but also for Switzerland’s security. That is why, as part of the enlargement contribution, Switzerland is investing in modern infrastructure that facilitates well functioning customs clearance at strategically important border crossings on the Polish-Belarusian border. In this case, the upgrade of the infrastructure of railway border crossing in Siemianowka allows Poland to comply with EU standards in the field of border management and security.

The programme is focused on the improvement of quality of infrastructure and services provided in social care institutions in the Lubelskie Voivodeship in order to enhance living conditions of residents of these institutions. The programme targets elderly people, mentally and physically disabled as well as youths deprived of appropriate parental assistance and directly contributes to promote social inclusion of disadvantaged groups.

Prevention on Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Infections

The aim of the programme is to create the basis for a national Hepatits C Prevention programme. For this purpose, the Hepatitis C prevalence rate is measured in the Polish population in general and in the groups of pregnant women and injecting drug users in particular. Transmission routes in medical settings are analysed and medical personnel as well as physicians are sensitized. Through a national information campaign, the awareness of the general public will be increased, and pilot projects for Hepatitis C prevention among drug users will be implemented.

Emergency Response

Epidemiological threats, natural disasters, terrorism attacks are global challenges. If a security accident is not properly managed by all security operators involved it could rapidly turn into a catastrophe with dramatic consequences for the Polish population and impact on EU security as well. The project will consistently contribute to the EU border protection. The Emergency Response Training will build capacities of the relevant emergency response management teams (in hospitals, police, public administration, border police), and train future trainers who should ensure the dissemination of the know how at a later stage.

Natura 2000 species diversity

The project aims at an increased protection of biodiversity on agricultural lands, particularly on Natura 2000 areas, through enhanced knowledge of the effects of agri-environmental schemes. The project sets the basis for a regional monitoring system. In addition, the awareness of relevant target groups (farmers, public authorities, NGOs) will be increased by information and training measures.

Survey of key bird species

The project aims at protecting over 50 key bird species as well as their habitats in the Polish Carpathian Mountains through a comprehensive inventory as well as analysis and preparation of the respective data for its use in forest management and agriculture.
