Surveys on forest and endangered bats, insects and birds in the Natura 2000 areas in the Northern Medium Mountains are carried out and provide the basis for effective measures to protect them. Integrated in forest management and Natura 2000 management plans after project closure, the conservation measures will be taken by stakeholders such as forestry or farmers.

Kazincbarcika: Job creation / development

This programme supports the set up respectively the expension of businesses and improves the image of the Kazincbarcika micro-region that suffers from high unemployment. A new Business and Incubation Park attracts investors respectively newly set-up companies which can get supported out of an application fund. In this way, new jobs are created and maintained in the long term.

The Scholarship Fund enables disadvantaged and marginalized children to obtain a good formal education. For this purpose, the Fund finances, e.g., projects that help the children in learning and in homework, that motivate them to study further, or that offer them leisure time opportunities (such as sport, culture).

Grazie al contributo svizzero all’allargamento, in tutti i Paesi partner, salvo Malta, viene finanziato un fondo di sostegno per le organizzazioni non governative (fondo ONG) atto a promuovere e rafforzare la partecipazione della società civile allo sviluppo socioeconomico del Paese. Il contributo totale destinato a questa iniziativa si eleva a circa 61 milioni di franchi.

In Ungheria la Svizzera finanzia due progetti volti a contenere le inondazioni del fiume Tibisco (in ungherese «Tisza») o quanto meno a ridurne le conseguenze più gravi. Il primo progetto raccoglie i dati che serviranno ad allestire e aggiornare i piani di emergenza in caso di allagamenti. Il secondo dovrebbe portare alla creazione di un sistema di informazione e comunicazione in grado di contenere le conseguenze negative delle inondazioni.

Development of tools to help the visually impaired

The project developed portable cell-phone-based apps for visual recognition. This tool shall help blind people in every-day life. An additional project component explored the possibility how to restore eyesight through optogenetic technologies in combination with bionic vision enhancement. Cooperating with the Swiss Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel, the research project gave opportunities for important scientific exchange.

Screening and utilisation of liquid wastes

The project will develop new treatment methods for liquid waste from the pharmaceutical and fine chemistry industry, in order to contribute to the improvement of water quality and to better utilise the waste for, e.g. denitrification in biological wastewater treatment or for the production of bio-gas.

Radioactive Waste Disposal

The objectives of the project are to make specific contributions to the safety assessment of the future radioactive waste repositories through an understanding of relevant retention/retardation mechanisms and processes, and to provide the necessary models and databases. Investigation of the geochemistry of radioactive waste disposal systems. The goal of the project is the demonstration of long-term isolation technology in underground repository.

The Twinning and Partnership Block Grant substantially increases mutual cooperation and part-nerships between Hungarian and Swiss-bodies.
