Fighting Illegal Immigration - Capacity Building of Romanian Immigration Office (RIO)

The project was aimed at improving the capacity and knowledge on illegal migration of the staff of the Romanian Immigration Office (RIO) and will equip them to better fulfill their task. Swiss Experts have been in charge of training courses. The project was part of the thematic fund security in Romania. RIO staff, police, other authorities dealing with migration issues
Attività The project has covered a study visit to Switzerland allowing a better understanding of Swiss institutional and legislative framework, operative management, experiences and best practices related to the detection of irregular migrants with illegal stay, followed by training for RIO staff and border police in Romania by Swiss experts, in the field of interview techniques and detecting counterfeit of forged documents of irregular migrants. A need for improvement of RIO equipment to perform activities related to illegal migrants has required the procurement of 8 new motor vehicles.
Risultati

Risultati raggiunti:  

  • 60 Romanian officials, 46 participants from the General Inspectorate for Immigration (GII) territorial structures, 4 from the central units of the Migration Directorate and 10 participants from the Romanian General Inspectorate of Border Police trained on detection and identification of migrants as well as interview techniques and detecting forged documents and benefitted from the exchange of experience with Swiss authorities
  • 8 motor vehicles to increase the efficiency of the checks have been purchased and delivered and are fully operational
  • Detection of 2496 irregular migrants (8% increase from 2013)
