Indo-Swiss Collaboration in Biotechnology (ISCB)
In the context of increasing global challenges, rapid demographic changes, degradation of natural resources and impact of climate change, the Indo-Swiss Collaboration in Biotechnology develops innovative products with the aim to improve food security, sustainable and climate resilient agriculture. Swiss and Indian research institutions join forces in a partnership to develop products that are oriented towards market integration. Based on a long-standing partnership the new phase will particularly endeavour to focus research on farmers’ needs and to better integrate innovations in a value-chain approach.

- Successful development of bio-fertilisers that increase wheat yield by 40% can now be commercialised
- Chickpea varieties are developed that are resistant to insect pests
- Bio-pesticides are developed and ready to be rolled-out
- Wheat breeding programme builds on synergies with Swiss technology
- Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne
- Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India with whom a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed, DBT is also a co-founder, EPFL, Lausanne (mandate)

Contexte |
Increasing global demand for food has to be seen in the context of growing challenges of degradation of natural resources, market integration and climate change and variability. Water, food, energy and livelihood security are seriously threatened world-wide. This has adverse impact on sustainable improvement in production and productivity of staple crops. |
Objectifs |
To contribute to food security through innovative life sciences and biotechnology approaches, towards sustainable and climate resilient agriculture. The overall programme objective is that innovative biotechnological products and processes addressing smallholder farmers’ needs are developed, validated and their eventual dissemination and adoption promoted through public and private partners. |
