Background | A recent Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) and Protection Cluster Initial Rapid Needs Assessment (IRNA) report of Rotriak (23 August 2024) showed that floods have destroyed farmlands and livestock, negatively impacting the FSL of the people, while GBV risks have increased as families are forced to share shelter. According to the IRNA, Rotriak hosts 44’536 people (4’299 households) of which 52.2% are flood related IDPs and 34% are returnees from Sudan, among them are separated and unaccompanied children and 13.8% are host communities. People in Rotriak have limited access to basic services and the continuing rainfall and storms in the recent weeks worsened the flooding. The prevalent protection risks for women and girls include sexual violence, forced/early marriage, physical attacks, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, abuse and rape especially when going for firewood collection, cultivation and other chores. Despite the high rates of GBV, most of the GBV cases are not reported due to stigma and cultural taboos. The report highlights that 83% of the population is not aware of the availability of GBV services. |
Objectives | Build and strengthen community structures, including livelihoods and GBV prevention, that enable men and women, boys and girls to realize their full potential as economic and social actors. The community’s capacities to provide protection services and livelihood opportunities are enhanced, empowered and discrimination is reduced. |
Target groups | The project will target returnees, IDPs and host communities in Rotriak, Unity State. |
Medium-term outcomes |
Outcome 1: Targeted communities have increased availability and access to GBV services and support especially vulnerable women, children and survivors of GBV. Outcome 2: Increased access to economic opportunities by vulnerable communities in Rubkona (Rotriak) of Unity State. |
