The Eurodac database contains the fingerprints of persons applying for asylum in a Dublin member state or those who are intercepted while entering one of such countries illegally.
In order to improve Switzerland's internal security, Switzerland and the EU signed a protocol on 27 June 2019 granting access to the Eurodac database to Swiss prosecution authorities under certain conditions.
