Bus Terminal Pardubice

Project completed

In the last five years, the city of Pardubice has experienced noticeable rises in the use of private cars including the associated negative consequences such as higher levels of air pollution, congestion and traffic accidents. The project aims to improve the quality of public transport in the city of Pardubice by modernizing the present public transport system and by more efficiently integrating urban and regional buses, railway and bicycle transport by creating a multimodal transport node.

Background

The project’s overall objective is to improve the quality of public transport in the Municipality of Pardubice. The number of customers shall be increased, as well as the reliability and the sustainability of the transport-system. It shall also have positive social, economic and environmental impacts.

The project’s overall objective is to improve the quality of public transport in the Municipality of Pardubice. The number of customers shall be increased, as well as the reliability and the sustainability of the transport-system. It shall also have positive social, economic and environmental impacts. The project components include a new regional bus terminal, bicycle lookers, an improved traffic situation a bypass for private motorized traffic, a new pedestrian crossing over the main street and modern passenger information systems.

Target groups

The direct beneficiary is the region and the Municipality of Pardubice, which will be supported to improve their public transport infrastructure. The primary target group are approximately 10'000 passenger per day who currently change at Pardubice’s main railway station from rail to bus services and vice versa.

Activities
  • Construction of a new bus terminal on the station square to be used by regional and urban buses
  • Improvement of layout and visual appearance of the station square after landscaping works
  • 12 car parking spaces with provision for short-term utilisation
  • Transformation of existing bicycle stands into self-service lockers for bike-and-ride use
  • Installation of a new multimodal information and navigation system
Results

Achieved results:  

  • Creation of a multimodal transport node in the vicinity of the train station for safe and seamless interchange between rail, regional- and urban buses including the provision for bike-and-ride
