Switzerland supports UN Women because targeted action for gender equality and women’s rights is a Swiss priority in its foreign policy and international cooperation.

UN Global Compact Core Contribution 2021-2023

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the largest corporate responsibility initiative worldwide, and one of the most successful UN-Private Sector partnerships. Switzerland has been a major supporter of the UNGC from its inception in 2000 and, with this eighth phase core contribution, is supporting the implementation of the UNGC’s 2021-2023 strategy, which has the overarching objective of accelerating and scaling the global positive impact of business on the 2030 Agenda.

UNICEF Core Contribution 2021

UNICEF is the leading UN agency to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet basic needs and to expand children’s opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by Switzerland in 1997. Switzerland supports UNICEF to provide education and ensure the protection of every child, to strengthen its institutional effectiveness and implement the United Nations Development System Reform.

UNFPA - Core Contribution 2021

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) works to address questions related to population and development, with an emphasis on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and youth. UNFPA is the only multilateral organization, which is engaged on a normative and operational level in promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights SRHR as well as gender equality and women’s empowerment. It is therefore a key partner for Switzerland to ensure progress on these joint priorities.

Plantwise plus (PW+)

The project Plantwise Plus aims to help farmers face climate challenges and plant health threats. Through the provision of information on climate adaptation practices and technologies (agroecological practices), decision-making tools, and targeted climate risk analyses, the project will help countries to prepare themselves for and prevent plant health threats and reducing crop losses. In the past, CABI and Switzerland have made a proven difference to livelihoods and food security of 40 million farmers worldwide.

The COVID-19 crisis magnified existing inequalities. The people with less access to resilience mechanisms, such as the poor, women and youth groups are hardest hit, risking the loss of decades of improvement in poverty alleviation. Rural Advisory Services (RAS) are an important production input for millions of small farmers around the world. The two international networks based in Switzerland, and present in most geographical locations in the world will together develop and strengthen the ability of rural advisory services to better serve the smallholder farmers.

The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Programme promotes volunteerism as a means to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Swiss contribution to the Special Voluntary Fund (SVF) enables UNV to support member states and the UN system to harness the power of volunteerism through the mobilization of national and international volunteers and the integration of volunteerism into national and global policies.

Empowering Media in Tanzania

Citizens and governments rely on media to stay informed, communicate and be held accountable. Quality issues, revenue challenges, a difficult legal environment and security concerns limit the capacity of the Tanzanian media to play this role effectively. The Empowering Media Tanzania Program builds on long standing Swiss experience and works through contributions to six local and international media support partners to improve media quality, journalism security and content provided to young Tanzanian women. 


Reintegration of Returnee Migrant Workers Project

01.01.2021 - 31.05.2027

The project will contribute to ensure migrant workers benefit fully from their migration experience by supporting the reintegration of returnee migrant workers in Nepal. It will work with the Nepali Government to provide reintegration services and support policy development to anchor them in the federal structure. Switzerland has a key interest that the potential of migration for development is fully used and is well positioned to engage on the topic, given its track record in migration in Nepal.

MLRBP - Motorable Local Roads Bridge Programme

The project contributes to the consolidation of Swiss Knowhow transfer in the bridge building sector by supporting the government of Nepal in institutionalizing the implementation of local infrastructure at provincial levels in the spirit of the devolved provisions made in the new Constitution. This will increase people’s perception that their provincial government delivers most essential physical access to basic services and economic opportunities, boosting their confidence in the new federal system.

PFNL - Programme d’appui à la valorisation des produits forestiers non ligneux au Burkina Faso

01.01.2021 - 30.06.2025

Au Burkina Faso, le fort potentiel en produits forestiers non ligneux peut être davantage exploité au profit des populations vulnérables en améliorant la sécurité alimentaire et la création de revenus. Pour une dernière phase, la Suisse, avec le cofinancement des Pays-Bas, consolide les acquis d’une manière durable tout en soutenant l’extension dans une nouvelle région pour prendre en compte, en particulier les personnes déplacées internes (PDI), les femmes et les jeunes affectés par la crise sécuritaire.
