BACKUP Health Technical support for Global Fund country partners

Switzerland supports The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria with 64 million CHF for three years (2020-2022). As the Fund is a global financing mechanism without country presence that provides grants to recipient countries. The BACKUP Health initiative strives to strengthen governments and other national stakeholders in such way that they embed Global Fund grant proposals in broader health sector priorities.

Conserving Forests through sustainable forest-based Enterprise Support in Tanzania

The CoForEST project contributes to the reduction of deforestation by incentivizing rural communities to retain their natural forests. This exit phase aims to expand a successful and sustainable community-based forest management model that generates significant livelihood benefits for both women and men. Linkages with initiatives supported by the Global Program on Climate Change seek to influence policies and financial mechanisms.

Contribution to the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children and the Safe to Learn Initiative

At least a billion children are exposed to violence yearly. Recognizing its devastating impact, world leaders committed in 2015 to end all forms of violence against children by 2030. This resulted in the launch of the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children. It aims to contribute to a “world in which every child grows up free from violence”. A key pillar is the Partnership’s Safe to Learn Initiative that aims to end violence in and through education. Through this support Switzerland contributes to both the SDG 16 on Peace and SDG 4 on Education.

GEMR - Global Education Monitoring Report

Depuis 2002, la communauté internationale confie au Rapport mondial de suivi sur l’éducation le mandat de rendre compte des avancées en matière d’éducation en vue de la réalisation de l’Objectif pour le Dévelopement Durable 4 relatif à l’éducation. Ses analyses rigoureuses et recommendations stratégiques permettent d’animer et d’alimenter de manière fiable et pertinente les débats concernant les politiques éducatives et d’influencer leurs orientations, en soutien au dialogue politique suisse.

Dynamic electronic decision trees for managing childhood illness (DYNAMIC)

Every year, more than five million children die before the age of five due to preventable or treatable causes, most of them in developing countries. New technologies combined with rapid tests can improve diagnosis and management of sick children and reduce health costs. This collaborative research project makes use of Switzerland’s knowledge in digital technologies to improve the health of children and reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions in low resource settings.

Research and Technology for sustainable development in the global South (SDC contribution to ETH4D of ETH Zurich and Tech4Dev of EPFL)

Many countries struggling with extreme poverty have expending economies, creating new opportunities for innovative approaches to address societal and environmental challenges. SDC supports the new initiatives of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH4D, ETH Zurich and Tech4Impact, EPFL), which encourage Swiss researchers to work together with research and implementing partners from the global South in developing research-based solutions to global challenges.

Forte de son expertise en matière d’éducation et sur la base des résultats clés obtenus à travers les autres programmes du portefeuille éducation, sa contribution au PAQUE vise à améliorer la qualité de l’éducation au. CISP: Integral Protection and Humanitarian Assistance to border population, displaced persons, returnees and migrants with multi-affectation in Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador

SDC supports the Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli (CISP) in its efforts to improve living conditions for migrants, returnees, refugees and host communities in need, living mainly along the Colombo-Venezuelan and Colombo-Ecuador borders through increasing the supply of humanitarian assistance, aligned with the Humanitarian Response Plan for Venezuela and priorities of the Governments of Colombia and Ecuador in the domains of protection, health, mental health, nutrition, water and sanitation and access to education.

CRC: Integration of migrants and host communities in Cali

SDC will support the Colombian Red Cross (Cruz Roja Colombiana, CRC) in improving cultural and socioeconomic integration of Venezuelan migrants, Colombian returnees and vulnerable host communities in Cali. This project will work on the nexus between responding to humanitarian needs and building conditions for socioeconomic stabilization among migrants, returnees and vulnerable population. It will take place in a context of protection risks especially for women, youngsters and children associated to illegal economies and armed actors.

“Mental Health for Universal Health Coverage” (MH4UHC)

In low resource settings, less than 20% of people with mental disorders have access to mental health services. Building on best practices and experience from Swiss supported programs at country level, the Special Initiative for Mental Health aims to increase access to care for people with mental disorders in low- and middle-income countries. Priority areas are advocacy for investments in mental health, evidence-based policy formulation, and integration of mental health services at primary healthcare level.

WFP Protection, Accountability to Affected Population, and Inclusion Policy Development

Implementing the aspiration set out in the WFP Strategic Plan (2017-2021) for a people-centred, needs-driven approach that is guided by a strong commitment to the humanitarian principles calls for strengthening the integration of Protection and AAP throughout WFP’s operations. Therefore, WFP has started implementing a new Protection, AAP and Inclusion strategy, with the aim to inform the development of a new Protection Policy by early 2021.This project intends to further support this ambitious endeavour.
