Shkollat për Shëndetin (SpS) - Schools for health

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for the highest mortality in the country. The program aims to reduce the exposure to the major risk factors for NCDs through improvement of lifestyle practices in schoolchildren and communities. Municipalities will be supported to develop sustainable models for health promotion and healthy environments at school. Cooperation between Ministries of Health and Education will be strengthened to establish framework conditions conducive to health.

Advancing Sustainable Agriculture in Ukraine

Agricultural production in Ukraine is unsustainable. SDC and Nestlé join efforts to improve agricultural production practices in two selected value chains which will contribute to an improved farm performance and life of farmers. The project will pilot a business model for farm sustainability with 10 farmers and 5 pre-processing lead suppliers. Good business cases showing sustainable farm performance and supply to pre-processors will be disseminated for potential replication.

Labour Migration governance for development and integration in Africa

An effective labour migration governance is an important element of regional economic integration and development. Switzerland has a longstanding expertise in labour migration at the global and regional level and an interest in furthering economic development on the African continent. Through this programme, Switzerland partners with the Africa Union towards the establishment of a permanent coherent mechanism to manage the migration of African migrant workers, thereby contributing to the creation of socio-economic perspectives on the African continent.
Strengthening the financial inclusion of migrant women through the Gender-Inclusive Fintech Fund (GIFF)

Switzerland aims to enable migrant women to increase their access to and usage of financial products and services by assisting FinTech companies in becoming gender- and migration-centred. The Swiss contribution goes to the Gender-Inclusive FinTech Fund, an innovative investment fund deploying impact-linked finance and technical assistance that leverages private sector funds. The initiative operationalises the strategic link between migration policy and international cooperation, strengthens Switzerland’s profile in digitalisation and financial inclusion, and boosts its engagement with the private sector.

Bolivia is highly vulnerable to the effects of Climate Change. Thus, scientific information needs to be generated and used to upscale the communities’ capacity for resilience. Universities are key players in the area of research and have the potential to support development. This project aims to strengthen the capacity and sustainability of the Bolivian university systems. Results shall be shared with public institutions to ensure greater adherence to and impact on public policy.

Despite being the majority, young people have the worst HIV outcomes. Evidence-based, demographic and context-adapted responses are essential if ending AIDS by 2030 is to be attained. Proposed is a population level study to determine the impact of a comprehensive community based package of HIV services with a nested sub-study on Menstrual Health Management (MHM). Even though it is often neglected, MHM is crucial for women’s social inclusion, health and gender equality

The Horn of Africa is a hyper-fragile context with high security and fiduciary risks. This framework strengthens Switzerland’s fitness to operate remotely in hard-to-access contexts through a innovative monitoring and accountability tool. It supports capacity strengthening of local partners. The framework enables adaptive programming and effectiveness of the portfolio. It strengthens Somalia’s statistical system to improve data gathering and to monitor the implementation of the Agenda 2030.

Laut einer Studie von UNO und Weltbank spart jeder Franken, der in Konfliktprävention investiert wird, mindestens 16 Franken an humanitärer Hilfe, Blauhelmsoldaten und wirtschaftlichen Kosten. Die Prävention und Bewältigung von Krisen mit den Mitteln der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit ist im Interesse der Schweiz. Die Unterstützung von vier Initiativen des Weltentwicklungsprogramms (UNDP) fördert gezielt Frieden und Sicherheit, Rechtstaatlichkeit und demokratische Institutionen. Die Schweiz beeinflusst dadurch auch die Gesamtausrichtung von UNDP.

Strengthening Agro-biodiversity in Southern Africa (SASA)

While governments have regional and national seed policies favourable to commercial certified seed production, these are restrictive on farmers’ seed systems that are diverse and resilient. The project capitalises on Swiss regional experiences on supporting seed systems in Southern Africa. This will include the empowerment of civil society, farmers’ organisations and governments in developing inclusive agricultural policies that ultimately contribute to sustainable use of agricultural biodiversity and improved well-being of smallholder farming communities.
