Programme contribution to Brot für alle / Bread for all 2019-2020

Bread for all (Bfa), the development organization of the protestant churches of Switzerland, has aligned its mandate with the Agenda 2030. Through a network of ten faith-based organizations active in partner countries, Bfa supports disadvantaged people to access Food Security, Education and Health. It also strengthens communities in peacebuilding and conflict transformation, while furthering the social responsibility of Swiss stakeholders.

Contributions to OCHA Field Operations in 2019

OCHA’s mission is to coordinate the global emergency response, to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. OCHA advocates for effective and principled humanitarian action by all, for all, in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in sudden-onset disasters and protracted crises. It is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent and timely response to emergencies. Therefore, SDC seeks to provide support to OCHA field and regional offices in relevant humanitarian contexts, in line with SDC geographic and thematic priorities.

Access to Health Fund (ACCESS)

The Access to Health Fund (previously 3MDG), is strongly committed to deliver health services in conflict-affected areas to populations beyond the reach of government. By supporting State and Ethnic Health Organizations, the fund contributes to trust, fosters coordination, and mitigates causes of conflict. The Swiss contribution represents a continuation of support to Myanmar's health actors towards achieving universal health coverage.

Un accès aisé à des informations de qualité sur la coopération internationale et sur les défis globaux de nos sociétés est indispensable à la formation de l’opinion publique suisse. C’est pourquoi la DDC appuie par une contribution fédérale les centres de documentation d’Alliance Sud à Berne et Lausanne afin qu’ils mettent à disposition du public intéressé, à travers les différents canaux de communication, une offre de services et produits uniques, actuels et diversifiés ainsi qu’un conseil personnalisé sur place et en ligne.

Financial support to the Programme of Work and Budget (PWB) of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) 2019-2020

Switzerland’s support to the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) aims at maximizing the impact of international development cooperation towards achieving the sustainable development goals in the least developed countries, ensuring that no one is left behind, while catalyzing support from other actors to finance sustainable development in a complementary and coordinated way.

Improving Food Security and Land Governance through investment standards

Investment in agriculture is needed to feed a growing global population. These investments need to respect the situation of the local population and the environment. Switzerland chaired the drafting process of the Principles on Responsible Agricultural Investments that have been adopted by the Committee on World Food Security. Consequently Switzerland supports the application of the Principles by training development country stakeholders in the negotiation and application of sustainable investment frameworks to increase food security for the poorest populations.

Vocational Education and Training Phase III (VET III) “Youth Employment Promotion”

Youth selected their future jobs

The last phase of the project aims at consolidating best practices, streamlining them into the legislative framework and strengthening the capacities of national partners. The approaches and services tested by the project for youth employment, which are based on Swiss and international successful practices in employment promotion, will be integrated into the public systems to improve youth employment policies and their implementation, benefiting all young men and women.


Developing Skills for Better Employment

The economic growth of Albania has only recently been translated into labour market improvements. Unemployment remains to be high, especially among youth (24.5%). The project supports national institutions responsible for vocational training and employment to deliver coordinated and demanddriven services. 33'000 vocational school students will benefit from labour market oriented vocational training offer and 5'000/6% of registered unemployed job seekers from improved employment promotion measures.

Transboundary waters governance for Sustainable Development and Blue Peace

With increasing tensions around the rarefication of water, Switzerland, with its central position within the European continent, has chosen the path of regional water cooperation. This programme relies on the synergistic expertise of three international partners. It endorses the approach that increasing regional dialogue and fostering joint management and financing for the shared water resources contributes to socio-economic development and regional stability in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.


Fondation Kantha Bopha – Dr med. Beat Richner

01.01.2019 - 31.03.2023

25 years of Dr Richner’s tireless efforts resulted in millions of children receiving free quality medical care at Kantha Bopha Hospitals. Despite his retirement early 2017, the five hospitals are operating smoothly with the management model he set up and the commitment of the Royal Government of Cambodia to maintain it. SDC’s financial support remains crucial until a sustainable Cambodian financing is found.

Contribution 2019 to the World Food Programme’s Immediate Response Account (IRA)

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. The contribution to the Immediate Response Account (IRA), a multilateral funding mechanism, allows the World Food Programme (WFP) to respond proactively and to provide immediate food assistance in life-threatening situations and underfunded emergencies. The IRA reinforces WFP’s principles of timeliness, predictability and flexibility.

Primary Health Care (PHC)

01.01.2019 - 30.04.2023

The Primary Health Care project uses a convergent approach to improve the health status of vulnerable people in four conflict-affected townships in Kayin State. It contributes to peace, and brings together the Ministry of Health and Sports and Ethnic Health Organizations. Basic health services are strengthened through better coordination, training, supervision and supplies. Communities are empowered to achieve better health and feedback mechanisms are introduced.
