Policy advice for efficient VET reform in Serbia

Through this policy support to the Serbian Ministry of Education, governance mechanism of the new VET law will be put in place in a transparent and inclusive manner. State capacities will be able to evaluate the VET system. By increasing the outreach, the new system will be more need-based and available to all. All this will contribute to increased employment options for VET graduates. Partners are the Center for Education Policy (Serbian NGO) and the Swiss KOF.

EAMRP - East African Migration Routes Project

With a regional migration program, Switzerland contributes to better protection, provide livelihood perspectives and promote adequate policies for children and youth along the migration route in Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt. Different States and non-States actors are strengthened to better respond to migrant children and youth’ s needs, address their risks to exploitation, abuse and violence. This programme builds on the strategic link between international cooperation and migration policy in a priority region.

Youth, especially girls, are far more exposed to missing out economic opportunities, gender based violence and HIV-Aids than adults. TdH Schweiz promotes social participation of young people in nine countries in Africa and Central and South America, with a specific focus on prevention of violence, promotion of income opportunities and improving the reproductive health of youth. With its combined approach, involving individuals, communities and institutions it reaches out to over 190000 peers and some 2000 institutions.

Civil Society Support Facility – up scaling

The Civil Society Support Facility supports civil society organisations (CSOs) to become drivers of social change in Macedonia. CSOs will receive mentoring support to strengthen relations with their constituencies and build up alliances. Mechanisms for better cooperation between state institutions and CSOs will be established and will enable civil society’s active participation in public policy and decision-making. A competitive grant scheme supports CSOs institutional development as well as specific projects.

The promotion of cultural diversity is anchored in the Swiss Constitution as part of sustainable development. Switzerland’s support of artists from Africa, Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe is contributing to diversity in the analysis of social issues ensuring fundamental values in a democratic system. SDC’s partnership with the Locarno Festival supports independent filmmaking through the special Section Open Doors. Participants from Southeast Asia gain visibility, networks, knowledge, and opportunities for film production.

Financing of three Advisors at EDO World Bank

As leader of a nine country constituency in the Executive Board of the World Bank Group (WBG), Switzerland is able to wield a high level of influence in the governance and decision-making of the organization. This intervention will finance three non-Swiss advisors at the Swiss Executive Director’s Office (EDO) until the end of 2020 in order to maintain and strengthen the permanent seat of Switzerland in the WBG Board. The contribution is part of an ongoing financing arrangement with SECO, with each agency responsible for financing a two-year cycle.

In Bolivia, Switzerland has been supporting the Ministry of the Environment and Water in improving integrated water and watershed management for several years. In this last phase of the project, support is given to the consolidation and implementation of the “Plan Nacional de Cuencas” (National Watershed Plan) to ensure water security and increase the climate resilience of vulnerable populations. Consolidation includes better coordination among various state levels, sectors and institutions and the systematization and capitalization of experiences and results.
