Application of Migration Policy for Decent Work of Migrant Workers

Men and women who opt for migrating abroad for employment will benefit from better protection through pre-departure orientation, the application of international standard contracts and access to social security/welfare. The project will improve migration governance in Bangladesh by strengthening the rather weak policy and legislative framework and by building the capacity of the government to expand and improve services for migrant workers.

Fastenopfer (FO) is a Swiss Catholic relief organization established in Luzern in 1961. It supports disadvantaged people and communities of all confessions aiming at overcoming hunger and poverty in partnership with organisations in 14 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America as well as with partners in Switzerland. FO promotes socio- cultural and economic transformation towards sustainable development and is especially engaged in the areas of food security, sustainable economy and gender equality.

Civil Society for Social Cohesion

Lack of political pact on power sharing and misallocation of national resources generate exclusion and regional asymmetries intensifying potential conflict and fragility. The project to be implemented by three civil society organization will deepen social cohesion in the three conflict-volatile provinces in Northern Mozambique, promoting meaningful civic engagement of youth and women in political and socio-economic spaces and citizen centric accountable governance. It builds on Switzerland’s experience in contributing to a peaceful society, leaving no one behind, strengthening the social contract and by developing a joint future.

L’intégration de la santé mentale dans les services de santé primaire au Burundi vise à fournir une prise en charge adaptée aux personnes atteintes de maladies mentales post traumatiques. Ces dernières sont parmi les causes profondes des conflits au Burundi. Ce programme, qui permet à la Suisse de développer une niche particulière, appuie des institutions nationales, le système de formation spécialisée et vise à l’amélioration du cadre législatif en matière de santé mentale.

La région des Grands Lacs reste marquée par des crises politiques et des déterminants à long terme de la fragilité, tels que la mauvaise gouvernance, qui ont une incidence sur les conflits et la cohésion sociale. Par cette intervention, la Suisse entend contribuer à la consolidation de la paix et à l’inclusion sociale par le renforcement des mécanismes de prévention et de gestion des conflits communautaires et le maintien d’espaces de redevabilité entre l’Etat et les citoyens. Le projet sera mis en œuvre via des contributions à des partenaires régionaux, nationaux et locaux.

By developing a Regional Cultural Programme, Switzerland seeks to facilitate intercultural dialogue and exchange as a foundation for peace and conflict sensitive development in North Africa and to foster artistic expression as a driver of change in support to the challenges of transition. This will promote peaceful coexistence, political stability and social cohesion in North Africa, hence providing a contribution to the prevention of violent extremism and alternatives for the fulfillment of North African youth in their own societies.

Soutien aux activités d’INSO au Sahel

Switzerland will support the activities of INSO in the Sahel Region for the coming 4 years. By doing so, Switzerland caters to the safety and security of its implementing agencies, international and African alike, in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad. This will allow SDC to fulfill its mandate of operating in fragile contexts, keeping-up with the principles of “staying engaged” and respecting humanitarian principles. Benefitting organisations will be able to increase their conflict-sensitivity both while in the field and when devising new programmes.
